Dear Andy The wax sticks just need to be warmed through, often holding them in your hand will make them soft enough to rub / push in to the dents / scratches these can then be moulded again with a warm finger. Choose the wax stick that most resembles the timber colour

Hi - I painted my concrete garage floor 3 years ago from new.Etched it first then painted it with an oil based grey paint.It has held up well except for where the tyres rest where it has peeled back to the bare concrete. I saw 'PENETROL' in Bunnings and wondered if applying this to the concrete floor then repainting it would make the paint adhere better. In your brochure it dosn't mention concrete. If this product isn't correct for a concrete floor - do you have a suggestion on another or...... do I need to etch the bare spots again? thanks Barry Rolle

I am coating a new treated pine deck and eves pre construction. I was sold woodprep, powerlift & Spa-N-Deck. I understand the former two need to be kept wet for 15 minuites and then dried for min. of 3 days before applying Spa-N-Deck 3 times. Or did the in-store video say apply finish when wet? It's a nightmare just to coat something. I would appreciate a straight forward procedure for the use of above products.

I live and work as a painter in Lorne which is a very wet and often cold place in winter , I have used quantam products for years and found them to be very good to excellant on cladding, but on decks ,I have not the same luck, and seeing my place has rather large decks (60 mtr sq+ )with wide boards that the water often can sit on for days at a time . Hello I am a conservator working in Macau. I have a couple of old iron window grille in a Chinese heritage building. Unfortunately, they are in the court yard area and always get the rain and dust. I have used penetrol with oil-base paint on a metal fence in Sydney before. However, I don't want to use oil paint on these grille as it will not blend in with the rest of the house. Hi, Can you recommend how to prepare and paint a rusty metal seem in a car body. External rust has been removed but some rust is trapped in the seem. Hi, I purchased Spandeck acrylic wood finish to seal our new, indoor kwila staircase on the advice of our local solver store agent. After reading the instructions I'm now unsure that this will be the correct product to seal this staircase. We were told by the installers to seal our staircase within a week of installation so that it wouldn't get damaged by water, stains etc. However your product says to prepare by saturating with water and to wait 3-6 months to use on new wood. Do you have any advice on what to use and how to prepare our new (indoor) kwila staircase?

We have bought a vanity unit for the bathroom and the colour is a very dark brown (almost Black). We want to repaint it with a much lighter brown. It looks like it is a stained melamine material. We have some ESP to promote bonding. Do we need a primer or an undercoat since we are going for a much lighter colour. The final coats will be with an enamel paint. If we need a primer or undercoat, is it OK if it is water based. To get a very mirror like finish and to protect the paint work should we use something like a polyurethane coat.

Hello - I'm repairing a rusted area of steel panel in the engine compartment of my 4WD. I've prepared the surface by removing loose paint and rust and applied 2 coats of Penetrol to deal with the rust. Do I now need to use a separate primer before I overpaint to finish the job, or does the Penetrol do the job of the primer so that I can overpaint the Penetrol with a topcoat? Also, can I use an acrylic top coat, or do I need to overpaint the Penetrol with an oil based enamel paint? Thanks, john

I am restoring a club header board having to replace some lettering. The original lettering still attached to the header has been manufactured from some synthetice material and cut out by an engraver some 40 years ago. The existing lettering shade of gold cannot be matched today and appears to be etched into the synthetic material. I have to paint over all the lettering new and old to get consistent colour and am wondering if I use EB Emulsabond as a primer on the plastic lettering then coat with acrylic gold paint will it bind the two together.I intend to lightly sand the synthetic letters before painting Thank you in anticipation of an early response. hello, i purchased a bus from a person who had intentions to convert it to a motorhome. he hardly got started when i purchased the unit from him. i am well on the way with the conversion. when i purchased it from him it came with some of the necessary conversion goods.among these goods is a can of Penetrol & on the container it reads, 'Penetrating Primer Oil and Surface Conditioner'. the previous owner told me of his intention of 'etching'(on the inside) 3 of the windows & then painting the 3 windows a flat dark colour with an oil based paint, as is my intention. he said that he sought information from a paint retailer @ Albury NSW, where he lived & the product as previously described was recommended & sold to him by the paint retailer. as yet the container is unopened (500ml). can you tell me if this is the product i should be using for the above described intended purpose? alternatively, can you assist me with any information as to what i should be using, & the actual description of 'how to' go about the satisfactory blacking out of these 3 windows so there can be no viewing through them during the daytime or at night, from inside or outside the motorhome? i would prefer to purchase & use your companies products, after all you advertise that company has just celebrated it's 76th anniversary. they didn't get to this point by not doing the right thing by their customers. i do hope to hear or receive an email from you soon. regards from, guy charles, 7 elizabeth kenny court, toowoomba queensland 4350. mob ph. 0412 691332.

The heads of colourbond roof screws have gone rusty. What is the best way to treat/paint them. I applied Tannic and phosphoric acid rust converters which apparently is supposed to turn rust black. This hasen't happened ,so I am not sure if the rust will come through the paint again. 2000 screws to do!

Rather than a question, this is a recommendation. I tried many different paint strippers to remove a powder-coat finish from my pool fence with little success. I asked 'the experts' and they said thats because powder-coat finishes can only be removed by scraping. I saw your product, CITRISTRIP, in a small small local hardware shop, and decided to give it a try. It worked PERFECTLY! Well done. Hi, I had a new concrete patio (mostly undercover)on which I used an oil based product called Nu-Tech. Although I followed the directions carefully bits of the coating started to weare off fairly quickly. It is now 6 years old and I was wondering would it be suitable to put Penetrol on it followed by a couple of coats of acrylic paving paint. I did not want to do a massive sanding job, however I was going to give it a light sanding. Also how do I apply the Petetrol. The patio does get a fair bit of strong sun. Thanks for your advice. Would Penetrol be suitable over the lacquer and if so do I use 1 or 2 coats. Also if I use 2 litres of a 4 litre can, can I seal the can for use again is say 4-6 weeks? Thanks for any advice. John

Hi there, I was told some time ago that the VC175 tropical mould killer is less effective when mixed into a quality exterior paint in the recommended dose, but I can't recall the reasons why. Perhaps it was due to the hot sun on the treated paint or rain washing the treatment off the paint's surface as it gradually leaches out over time. Can you please clarify this matter?

Cast Iron Victorian lacework. On the slightly rusted front of the house I saturated it with Penetrol let dry for 48 hrs & applied Dulux Weathershield. For the more heavily rusted back I thought I might use CIP & DW. A hardware store on your list - no one seems to stock CIP in 2037 - said wrong - use rust converter gal primer & epoxy paint. Hi - I'm in the process of restoring a deck (approx 10 X 5M0 that has previously been oiled, turned grey I'd say from sun exposure. I then paid a guy to help restore it, he sanded it badly the aagainst the grain, and used a deck paint to hide his bad work. My partner and I have tried to start all over again by hand sanding the deck back to its original state, and are now investigating the best product to put on to maintain it. We were looking more at a varnish and found your website and are now trying to work out wether to use the spa and wood deck finish or the supreme performane hardwood finish. Hi , I want to coat a deck made of pallawon(northern box). I have used spa n deck on posts and not overly happy with the colour change.I would like to coat the deck with a product that gives the timber the same look as when it is wet. No one seams to agree too oil or coat with a water based product is a contentious.I have not seen a span deck product which will not change the colour of the timber.I realise the comments are it is required for the UV properties but surely there must be a product that will give me the result and also last. Hi, six months ago we used spa -n-deck 100% acrylic wood finish for fences,decks and weatherboards on our under cover house verandahs. We live in a rural area where bird droppings are an issue. We are finding since using this product nothing we do removes the birds droppings. If anything it seems it has made it worst. whereas before using the product we could remove the droppings with detergent and water this now seems to just set it in further. I have found penetrol an excellent product for controlling rust. I am about to treat some rust spots which will require filling before finishing. The usual procedure is ,after cleaning and sanding back,to treat any rust area with rust converter before filling and finishing.Can you tell me if I use Penetrol instead of a rust converter would this be as effective or would there be any adverse reaction between the filler compound and the penetrol resulting in a failure of the repair.

Hi, I have a Hopea Hard wood deck which the majority of is undercover and sees daily foot (and kid Trike) traffic. We had used Sikkens HLS and Cetol Deck coating which has not performed very well and has faded/cracked in several areas in a short time. (<12 months) From reading previous responses I assume I can use the Powerlift product instead of sanding to remove the existing coatings? (it is 42sqm so not looking forward to this!) My deck has been down for about 7 years. The merbau has turned grey and the nails are horrible. We are pulling up the merbau and having it machined to remove about 1mm which will bring out the colour. This will be done in sections and we want to know if it will be ok to use Spa n Deck straight away as the wood has already weathered? Also can we paint each board before screwing it back down?

Upon going to repaint some interior walls, I discovered some paint peeling away - closer investigation reveals i can peel large sheets off by hand (leaving very powdery plaster). A fellow at Solver said this is due to the plaster not being sealed correctly, and to completely remove paint, and coat with Solver Surface Conditioner ( http://www.solverpaints.com.au/documents/chemwatch-msds/13170.htm ). This is expensive and 4L only did 5 wall-faces, plaster just drinks it up - is this the right thing to be doing, and if so, is there a cheaper product to get the job done?

Hi, I am looking at using penetrol to treat some heavily surface rusted body panels. My question is about the compatibility and bond strength of these below products. I am thinking of applying pentetrol direct to rusted and bare metal panels, then spray over coating with Penetrol CIP, then standard poyester body filler, then 2 pac automotive undercoat, then 2 pac automotive top coat. Any info you can give me on a better way to do this would be great. eg; will the body filler bond with CIP properly or am I better off overcoating the CIP with the automotive 2 pac undercoat first and then applying body filler? Hi I just purchased 10 Litre spa n deck in Jarrah, but have concerns if I have picked the right colour, I currently have merbau wood, but a jimj on the woodwork forum said jarrah was a red/brown color and the sample in the shop of the flood wood pieces showed the jarrah to be lighter and redder than merbau. Yet in the catalog website and another forum the merbau looked to be redder. very unsure which is the redder brown color as that is the direction I wish to go.. Hi...I applied Spa n deck to my outside decking almost 3 years ago and recoated about 18 months ago...the coating appears to have suffered UV damage and I have just completed pressure washing it off...it just came straight off-there are a few minor patches where the original coating still adheres - all in shaded or covered areas eg under mats or shaded by plants etc...I'm concerned about reusing the same product to get the same result...if I do, do I need to completely strip off any remaining areas of coating..? The same thing happened on my front deck..your rep replaced the material...I'd like you to consider doing that for the back too...btw all installation instructions followed to the letter...

I am rebuilding an old jeep, and using penetrol on it where ever I find rust. I am treating or removing as much rust as possible before using penetrol (spray cans) followed by spray can oil based primer on the treated area, and am also using the same system on the 'split' style wheel rims before painting. I will be painting the jeep in either 1950's military style olive drab, or low sheen/matt desert sand (light tan). Can you please advise what type of paint would be best to use with the penetrol. The chassis/underbody I intend to hit first with penetrol and then spray can black underbody sealer type goop. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Stephen.

We seem to have fallen behind on the mtc. plan. I bought some 4 litre cans of Deks Olje #1 & 2 about two years ago. The interior of the cans appeared to have been electroplated with a mico thin coating of cadmium, like most paint cans. But, the interior lining of the can seems to have dissolved with time and exposure to the paint. The interior surface of the can now has a lead like appearance. If the cans were plated with cadmium and if the cadmium has dissolved into the paint, is the paint safe to use given the toxicity of cadmium and nature of Deks Olje weathering away as it ages? I apply Deks Olje to the deck of the wrap around veranda of our house in the tropics. Thanks, Rob

I want to revive the architraves,skirtings and jambs etc inside my house. The existing finish is varnish over stain and is in good condition apart from a couple of areas where the sun has faded the finish. Would one coat of tinted Penetrol do the job without having to sand and restain? Could I add some tint to the Penetrol? What type of tint would you recommend?

Hello, I own a beach house in Port Victoria (S.A.) and I have decided to removed the carpets, sand the floor and apply a high gloss finish. Our neighbors showed us their timber floor which had Aquatrol applied some time ago and it still looks magnificent. I have the can with me and it states that it is for exterior timbers. Can you advise if it is ok to apply this to inside floors (pine based), whether it darkens the floor (our preference) otherwise is there an alternative product? Hi, we have just built a new deck using 140 wide merbau and reading through forums have found your flood spa n deck products to be recommended but reading through forums there seems to be a bit of difference of opinion of the colour to use. General information seems to say the natural spa and deck leaves a more yellow finish. I had a small amount of mould in my drawer and i wiped the drawers out with a mild chlorine bleach solution then wiped it with water. Afterwards i noticed that the grain is raised on the sides of the drawers only. I have left it open and alone for 4 months and would like to know if, after this amount of time there would be any bleach residue left in the wood? Also, if i sanded the wood back to smooth wood would there be any bleach residue left in the wood? Finally, if there is no residue left, what would be the best varnish to use to finish the sides of the drawers? Thankyou

I am about to have a garage roof (ClipLock/Spandeck type) painted which itself is in good condition even after 30 years, however, the heads of the roof screws have a rusty surface, although can be screwed OK. Options are to replace the roof screws with new ones (abt 400), or apply Penetrol - which sounds easier. Do I need to wirebrush the roof screw heads before application of Penetrol, or just give each of them a coat? Paint coat will be Dulux Weather Shield. All OK? With thanks, 'Jack'

I have a deck made from pressure impregnated pine planks that has been down for 12 years without any treatment whatsoever. It is at a level where it is covered with salty water on king tides (3 or 4 times per year) so it has weathered quite a lot and the timber is rough. A landscaper recommended that I sand it lightly with and orbital sander to remove the rough edges and then use a Flood product to restore a better appearance. Hello, I have new galvainsed steel verandah posts. To improve corrosion resistance (live close to coast) I painted with penetrol first undercoated with quality oil based undercoat (house paint) and topcoated with weathershield. The paint did not seem to stick to the posts and can be peeled off easily. I am unsure if the the undercoat did not stick to the penetrol or the penetrol to the gal. I have used penetrol before and found it a great product. Any advice on the correct coverage for weathersheild paint with galvanised posts. Benno

Hi, I am renovating a fibreglass half cabin cruiser and wish to use some marine ply to alter the features of the vessel. Some of the marine ply will be fixed with fibreglass, the remainder will be sanded and paintegd with a one pack epoxy marine paint. Our builder has just laid a new merbau deck and as rain was forecast, he advised us to oil the deck before the rain. We did so with a sickens deck oil but have now been told by many people that our builder got it wrong and the timber must be left to bleed. Will we have any future problems with our early oiling?

We are constructing a deck. The posts are treated pine and the deck will be merbau. We would like the colour of the deck to be natural - the colour similar to the deck in your media photos that contain the 4 white potplants at front door (last pic). We want to match the treated pine so that the deck area and posts look the same colour. This is new timber. What is the quickest prep.? Hi there, I have a large antique cast iron indian cooking pot that i use as a pond with plants and gold fish. I am about to paint the inside lower part with quick grip. But i want to leave the top section so its possible to still see the beautiful rust colour. The nursery said to use penetrol to slow the rusting process, but i need to do this every 6 months. I have an Amrican built boat trailer that I fully submerge in salt water. The springs are non galvanised. I have very minor surface discolouration (light rust) foming on the springs. built new home finished December 2008, they used Flood product for decking - within six months on top deck coating began to lift, and has gradually done so on all decks around the home. Only 'decking' not affected is by the front door and gets none of the weather. Builder supposedly went back to rep here in Victoria and they told him it is best used on vertical surfaces? excuse me?????? In the end builder purchased two 10ltr cans of Spa'n'deck and left them by the front door (april 2011) In the process now of cleaning and stripping back all decks and going with another product. Not Happy at all, alot of expense and time for us. Accoriding to the rep (from the builder) nothing they could do....he problem to sort.

What causes mildew or mold, if there is enough ventilation and heating. There is no problem with roof leaks or rising dampness. Previously there were only 2 adults at the property and no problems. Now there are 1 adult and 3 teenage children that close doors and keep blinds shut to keep the warmth of the heating in the lounge room and kitchen area.

I want to use Spa-N-Deck on decks previously coated with Sikkens Cetol HLS (Oil based). The condition of the timber ranges from slight flaking/some bare timber, to finish in fair condition. Short of sanding,what is the easiest way to prepare it?

I have a piece of furniture which needs attention: could you please advise the best products to use? It's a very old, heavy timber cabinet divided up into pigeonholes and some vertical spaces; it looks like maybe something out of an old printery. The top timber is made of a board which is put in upside down so that when it dries out it turns up at the sides and also in the middle where this movement has caused a huge crack through the entire length of the board, so that it looks like two boards. At the moment I have moved it outside because it has a strong musty smell, the sort of smell you get in second-hand stores, but terribly strong and unpleasant. With the recent rain, soaking into the top timber over a few days, the top became almost flat, then when it dried out again it warped dramatically back to what it was. This top timber is the only part I have attempted to clean, using eucalyptus oil and sugar soap. That worked very well, but was hard work with a lot of scrubbing, and I think it dried out the timber. The backing boards have thick black sludge completely covering them, as did the top originally. the body of the cabinet has a lot of ink and other stains in areas but it isn't too dirty since I gave it a quick hose out with sugar soap and eucalyptus oil. But the pigeon-holes are difficult to get into as they are 215 wide x 80 high x 410 deep. I would like to clean and restore the timber as much as possible without resorting to sanding, and put on an oil finish. I would like to use natural products and definitely no acrylic or other plastic finishes. The timber seems to be very fine-grained and strong, and it's an industrial-style piece so it doesn't need a lot of finishing, just rejuvenating and it needs to get some moisture back into it. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I am extending onto a 9yr old merbau timber deck and am worried about being able to match old to new. The old section has been previously oiled using a cabots natural oil stain. Ideally, to match the old and new section, I would like to paint the whole area with a decking paint.Will a product like powerlift enable me to do this and would adding penetrol to the decking paint(cabots timbercolour) also assist with adhesion?

Have wire brushed a caravan chassis and then used rust converter. Will then paint with oil based primer and topcoats. However a lot of the brown rust has not converted so can I now use penetrol over the dried rust converter to seal any remaining surface rust before further painting ?

I am building a very artistic 14' metal fence with gate, I wanted to rust the metal first and then apply penetrol for the final appearance. I met a metal artist in Cape Cod who does all his metal work this way and I wanted to duplicate the process. After rusting the metal with 50% vinegar 50% hydrogen peroxide with salt added, I applied minimum 4 coats of penetrol and let cure for a week or so. I set one section of the fence outside for one night and noticed the rust coming through the next morning and I could remove the penetrol and rust with my fingernail down to bare metal. Before rusting the metal I thoroughly cleaned with a degreaser and wiped clean with acetone. Very frustrated, any help would be appreciated, cannot understand why his metal art endures and mine came off the first night outdoors. Thanks for any help and advice.

Recently inherited old family home built approx. 1946. removed several layers of deteriorated vinyl and/or carpet, to reveal timber floors, T*G, originally sanded but variety of finishes applied over years...some have border of varnish to accommodate centre carpet square, others were painted, one appears to be untouched but has some staining from glue applied to lino, kitchen has overall stained look which would have been ok except paint spots marring it and lines from glue marks again from lino...it has been suggested that we should have profession sanding and finish done but this is not an option as moving all furniture and ourselves out for the required time is too disruptive, plus it is very expensive and then I am not sure if I would really like the finished product or if it would really suit our lifestyle. What I would like to be able to do is clean or strip floors one room at a time and apply a finish preferably not a glossy look, which gives protective coating and is easy to keep clean and dust free on a daily basis. It is a farm house with a farm lifestyle and impossible not to expect a certain amount of dirty traffic but I don't mind a rustic country lived on look as long as I have the option of cleaning. What I don't want is a high maintenance floor or one which requires removal of shoes every time..cos it ain't gonna happen...I am not sure if there is a solution for my dilemma but it seems such a shame to cover up the beautiful example of excellent craftmanship. Hope you will be able to make some suggestions as to how I could proceed and with time patience and hard work ourselves achieve an overall blended well loved look.

Hi There, I have a spotted gum deck 30 sq mtrs in size, with a full western exposure and no cover. The deck was treated with Intergrain Dimension 4 and then DWD when it was laid 6 years ago. I have added more DWD each year or so, however the surface is now blistering and lifting in places, particularly around the nail holes. Can you please advise if Citristrip will succesfully remove the DWD as I would like to try the Spa N Deck products next. Is Spa n Deck as good as the DWD or better, do you think? Also, can you please advise if the Citrstrip is available in the 10litre size as the at guys at Paint City Noosa can only see a listing for 1 and 4 litre cans.

Hi there Just trying to restore my deck. It has become quite dark/black in some areas and normal deck clean just isnt cleaning it properly. I have just finished using some nappysan (propably weaker than what some forums suggest) which was better but still the wood is darker than it should be. The wood is Karri and I know there is a beautiful wood lying under the weathered effects. I have read good things about powerlift. I have vanished cedar windows on my house. I lower part are extremely weathered. I have sanded back the lower sunaffected parts ready to revanish but the top section vanish is still OK and is not rubbing back easily. We have used Penetrol in dulux gloss enamel on laminated Kitchen cupboards and found after 12 months that it has gone smeary ( chalky )when its cleaned it comes back in a couple of days.What do you suggest we do with this, is it o.k. to repaint over the top or will the chalky come back? I have recently bought a 2 year old home which has two decks that I have decided to refurbish. I am not aware of the original product that was applied but the last product was Solver Natural Decking oil. The decks have gone very dark greyish shade in the area exposed to the weather whereas the area under cover is still the natural timber colour. I purchased a product called ?Dekswood ? Cleaner and Brighter for Exterior Wood? It is a 5:1 mix applied to a damp deck but now change occurred to the deck surface. I was then advised at the local Hardware store to use Flood ? Powerlift to which I applied according the instructions alas little or no change to the deck. I then gave the deck a light hand sand to break the surface and reapplied Powerlift again there was little or no change to the deck surface. On returning to the same local Hardware store to explain my predicament I was advised the discolouring of the deck maybe caused by mould caused by lack of ventilation so I then decided to sand an area to determine whether the discolouration was on the surface or in the timber, I found that I could sand off the discolouration meaning that it was not mould. I have also tried household bleach but this did not remove the discolouration. The reason I am contacting you is that within your description for Powerlift you explain how it is much stronger and does not damage the timber and will remove old finishes, sealers and dirt - this I did not experience and have come to the conclusion that the only way to remove the discolouration is by sanding the deck. I would be very interested in your reasons why your product has not achieved the expected results. Note: The decks are made of hardwood attached to steel bearers and the main reason why I am reluctant to sand the decks is that a number of the screws have broken (maybe due to the different products being timber and steel) and the heads have become slightly raised making it difficult to sand. We would like to lay Kwila/Merbau decking over the edge of a section of our pool however we are concerned about it leaching onto our Travertine waterline tiles. If we water the timber daily for a few weeks and then treat it before laying with Powerlift, will this solve the leaching problem? I wish to rejuvenate an 8 yrs old ironbark timber deck around a pool that has never been treated- with anything.I prefer the grey lool of aged timber which is why I didn't stain/oil it when new.However,the longevity of the timber is obviously a problem as I now have to replace many boards that are badly cracked/splintered/rotting.Is there a way of now treating the timber to give it added longevity,but allowing it to grey? Unfortunately we have a huge deck area which has been coated with DWD. This would have to be the worst product I have seen for the purpose. Needless to say we now have to remove this prior to replacement with a product such as yours which has come highly recommended. We have used a chemical remover, mechanical scrubber and power washing to yield very little result. Can you recommend any other method of removal as we have raised rounded nails which prevent sanding.

We have used Spa-N-Deck according to the instructions, a few years ago on our outdoor deck. For some reason we have mould growing on it in many areas and have used mould cleaners to try and clean it before reapplying another coat of Sap-N-Deck. In several areas we sanded it back to bare wood to remove marks from rubber furniture wheels. So now we have bare wood on a few spots and Spa-N-Deck on the remaining deck. I have two questions: 1) If I use Flood Mould Action first, then WoodPrep, on the entire deck, do I need to apply the Spa-N-Deck base coat to only those areas we sanded back while it is still wet, then let everything dry and apply more coats to the entire deck? Question 2) In order to prevent mould from growing again, can we add your VC175 product to Spa-N-Deck, or do you recommend something else to guard against mould growing? We live in a coastal area of QLD so salt air and moisture are constantly affecting the deck. Thank you for your help.

I have prepped my deck and am using CWF - UV 5 Clear to seal it. However, some areas are looking shiny. I coated it with one coat, waited till it looked like it had penetrated and then added a 2nd coat. There weren't any puddles so I can't figure out why its shiny, unless its coming from what was there before (which I couldn't get all of it off, so am going over it - though I did get a lot off with the deckcleaner and powerwasher). Please advise - should I wait until the first coat looks flat and mat before adding the 2nd coat?

I need to paint colourbond guttering is E.S.P ok to apply straight on the colourbond and then paint two coats of exterior paint. (Do I need a Primer) Therefore is E.S.P ok for exterior use.

We have a number of merbau outdoor decked areas. Which of your products would be best to use to maintain the beauty of this wood and keep it looking great? They have been previously oiled, but need doing again and I'm looking for a product which doesn't require me oiling our decks every 3 - 6 months. We are in Lakes Entrance, so near the ocean.

Hello and thank you for the oportunity, Our house has wood panelling on the walls of the hallway,it hasn't been touched since the 1920s. I think it is stained and either waxed or varnished. I would like to clean them as well as the doors, window frames, window sills, etc. I think I used the ESP product on another area of wall apanelling before, it did take some of the colour away and I had to not be so energetic with the rubbing. I used a polyurethane finish afterwards. I would like to know if ESP is the most suitable product or whether I should be using the Penetrol Paint Conditioner and primer or the Penetrol Wood Oil, would the latter save me on having to use a polyurethane finish? The wood on the panels is a mixture of hardwood, tasmanaian oak veneer on the window frames some red cedar, some of which is not varnished, just stained. Thanks you very much! Hi. looking to convert fairly rusty internals of chassis rails on an old car. im unsure what product suits best (if any). If i flood penetrol up all the rails and leave to dry then sandblast the rest of the chassis (externally) and topcoat with 2 part epoxy etch primer followed by spray tar will your product bleed through the cracks and joins and possibly upset this? The CIP penetrol states its safe to topcoat with these products but it doesnt look as well suited to my rust problems on these internal rails as the base penetrol does. Finally after all these processes i planned to flood the rails with fish oil to ensure rust prevention as the car is on a 360 degree roticorie making it easy to do as gravity will be on our side. I wish to recoat a 30yo deck, substrate two-pack polyester resin. Current coating is thick and almost indestructible, may contain sand as a thickener, apparently applied with metal stipple roller, producing a user-friendly wrinkled, UV-resistant, matt surface. I am not going to attempt removal. I wish to recoat it, without filling the texture. I intend to use water under pressure (gurney) and s/steel brush to clean it. I need to use a product that is very long lasting in tropical marine setting (UV and seawater). The products I have inquired about will not go over two-pack surfaces (fibre glass). Any ideas? I have a rusty galvanised roof which I am considering treating with a coat of Penetrol CIP then 2 coats of Penetrol Aluminium. The Penetrol CIP webpage states ?Allow to dry for 24 hours before over-coating? and ?needs 3 days curing when using 2-pack or other catalysing paints?, but the factsheet says ?Full curing takes 7 days depending on surface condition and temperatures. Only after 7 days is CIP ready to accept 2 Pack top coats.? How long should I gave the CIP to cure before over-coating with the of Penetrol Aluminium? Also does it matter if the CIP gets weathered (rain etc.) while curing before over-coating?

Hello, I am in the process of building a deck and am looking for advice on what product/s to apply. The deck is adjacent to a salt water pool and will have a spa sitting on top of if. The end of the deck is sitting on top of the existing tiling around the pool, so my plan was to spply somthing to all surfaces of the first few boards before I install them so that they do not leach tannins onto the tiles, then apply the same products to the top surface of the rest of the deck. I have been to Bunning I was recommended to start with Powerlift to remove the tannins, then Woodprep to clean off the Powerlift, then apply Spa n Deck. Is this what you would recommend? Hi, I am having a new hardwood deck installed at home and next week they will be laying the decking boards, stairs and then the final dressing. I have elected to do the sealing myself to keep the costs down and to ensure my investment is looked after the best it can be. The deck itself is about 3.5m wide and 15m long, how much product would i need for the job? I was looking at sandiing the timber before applying any sealer to it due to water marks, stains etc. Is this necessary or can I just use the 'WoodPrep'? As for the final sealer across the deck, its our front deck and we use it to entertain on, so I have the BBQ, table and chairs etc on it, I wouldn't say it a hughly high raffic area day to day because we come and come mainly by the back door, so do all our visitors that know us anyway. I was considering the Flood Supreme Performance sealer as it appears to be the best. Could you please answer my questions and confirm that my local harware store still stocks your product. About tweo years ago the metal surface beneath the fascia and metal support poles along the veranda had the rust removed by a professional housepainter (not sure if it was Penetrol), and then painted over. Unfortunately the rust has come through the paint so I am asking the following questions : If Penetrol is applied directly over the painted surfaces will it help remove the rust coming through? Will it damage the paintwork? Will it be so obvious that the surfaces will have to be repainted? I am a pensioner with limited funds and, consequently, not sure what to do. My 35 year old house has dark stained (non gloss) skirtings and architraves. A few years ago I had a floating timber-look vinyl floor installed over the concrete slab. The edges were finished with a kind of dowel which effectively halved the height of the skirting boards (now only 2 cms high, above the dowel, and look ridiculous). I?ve started sanding the skirtings so that I can paint them the same colour as the walls but it?s a monster of a job as I have to protect the dowel edging while I sand. Both the skirtings and architraves have a lot of chipped edges. If I sand back the chipped edges plus other damaged areas, can I then use ESP over the whole area (including the sanded parts) before painting? Any other advice would be much appreciated. I have just purchased a spa with a cedar cabinet which will get the afternoon sun. I wanted to get a protector on the wood before it gets damaged. I went down to the local paint shop and he said I have to let the cedar get the sun and wet for about 6 weeks, then clean and paint with your spa-n-deck product. I am concerned about it sitting for 6 weeks and getting weathered, there is absolutely nothing on the cedar at present and it has been sitting on a shop floor for I dont know how long. Also will the cedar bleed in the weather, as it is sitting on new coloured concrete and I cant move? I would appreciate your recommendation?

Hi, Is the tropical mould additive designed for acrylic paint or only oil-based paint? Is it suitable for exterior varnish? On exteriors I'm told the wood discolouration is often caused by algae rather than mould. Does your product also affect algae? An old mate has a good trick for keeping Penetrol jelly-free. He puts glass marbles into the tin until it's 'full' again, thereby excluding all the air. Thanks.

Hi My Merbau deck has just been completed (its almost at ground level)and I've been advised that I may need to wait up to 1 month for the timber to expel its oil/tannins before sealing it. I thought untreated timber needs sealing ASAP? I live on the Sunshine Coast in Qld so you have an idea of the weather conditions the wood is exposed to. One side of the deck gets the morning sun till midday. I'm concerned about that side becoming weathered more than the rest which is mainly in the shade all day. When it's sealed, the final colour may be affected and a different on the sunny side? What can you suggest? I intend using 'Supreme' to preserve the wood but I am not sure if I should use a clear finish so the natural grain & beauty of the timber shows through OR should I use the merbau stain version? I'm uncertain as to the final (3 coat) finish each one will achieve. I do not want a bland 'each plank is the same colour' to the finish. I still want to see the wood and I also do not want a shiny finish, satin would be good. The product information I've seen doesn't provide this level detail. However, I would like some uniformity as a few planks are fairly yellow compared to the others. Would the result be satisfactory to use either the natural OR the merbau product for the first 1 OR 2 coats? What effect may this combination have on the end result? Which one should be applied first, followed by ? coats of ? Also, a paint 'expert' mentioned that I can speed up the weathering process by wetting the timber, to get the tannin's out quicker. Is this OK? How often? I'd rather weather it naturally washing it down with water only than use the pre-treatment due to the acid content AND that I really don't have anywhere to safely wash it off without affecting the lawn, garden and pavers. If I cannot forgo the pre=treatment, can I dilute it less than 50/50 with water and still achieve a good preparation outcome? If so, what % do you suggest? As I have a lot of questions, I'm happy if someone can give me a ring. If so, I'll provide my phone number once I have a response. Recently I have used Penetrol Anti-Rust Control on outddor furniture. When i placed the furniture on my deck, black sticky residue has formed at the feet of the chairs causing unsightly stains on the deck. This doesnt occur when i place the chairs on outdoor tiles. As a result i placed felt under the chairs and returned the chairs to the deck but still have the same issue. ?????

I understand that I must firstly treat the surface which is aluminium cladding but with numerous things such as roof hatches/air conditier etc fitted that are trimmed and sealed with white silicon sealers. Aust Paints recommended Penetrol, so can you advise which Penetrol product I should use to treat the silicon joints.

Hi, I am about to start coating my timber floor with Wattyl Moisture Cured full gloss polyurethane. As this is a solvent based product, I am aware that the smell is overpowering. I thought the Odour Eliminator may be useful however I am not sure if it is compatible with the Moisture cured product mentioned above. I want to paint some clay/fibreglass combination (urbanlite) planter boxes. I was advised at Bunnings to precoat with 'Penetrol Quality Paint Oil - penetrating primer oil and surface conditioner' and told that it was fine to coat over that with acrylic paint. Having looked at the product and info sheet I am now not sure if it is suitable as a primer for acrylic paint or not. I see that there is a 'E-B Emulsa-Bond Acrylic Bonder-Sealer-Primer in one' product and a 'ESP Easy Surface Prep' product. I have a deck coated in DWD. Currently in some areas the coating has worn or weathered away while substantial areas that are better protected have retained an intact surface. Is PowerLift an appropraite product for such an area. (I would like to try a small area but minimum pack size is 2 litres).

Actually three questions. #1. Can penitrol be sprayed inside a compressor tank to stop the rust? Obviously without any presure, say through the drain plug. #2. Can penitrol be applyed to hot dipped gal to stop or delay corrosion and ultimately rust on & inside the frame of boat trailers, all traces of salt having been first flushed away? #3. It is not clear from reading your anti-corrosion and marine products if they can be used on the unpainted bottom of an aluminum hull. The five year old boat I have just purchased is painted inside and the sides but the bottom is showing the beginnings of fine corrosion spots. What do you recommend? I have used penitrol quite successfully on bare & rusted steel, both solely and over coated with finishing colour, as well as mixed 50/50 with black killrust. So well that an old tractor used for launching our boats off the beach through sand and salt water for 15 years, has spent the last 5 years back farming again! Had great problems with deck coating last year; orginally done with oil, however faded quickly. The ha dit cleaned with power lift and spa n deck applied, contrctor did not clean off oil well, so finish poor. The deck was then sanded back and cleaned again and spa and deck reapplied. Now 12 months later has faded again. Will I need to clean again with powerlift and then reapply spa and deck, and will it need more than one coat?

Dear Sir/Madam, firstly; great web-site. I've been able to find answers to just about all my questions on it except for a couple: Have any of your products been tested on bamboo? I can't locate anything that is recommended for use on bamboo. (Apparently, bamboo is more of a grass than a wood so it has a high silica content which causes problems with penetration and adhesion.) I've found that your ordinary Penetrol (not the wood Penetrol) appears to soak in a bit. It appears that your product 'Supreme Performance' may also be suitable. Have you any answers on this please? Also, how does Penetrol go when exposed to the elements? It is easily the best product I've used for treating rust. What's more, it looks good on the old metal and rusty surfaces. Metal sculptures and garden furniture for example. Is there any information on how long the Penetrol, by itself, will last on metal when exposed to the elements? Thanking you in advance, Jon Mayhew

Hi there. I have a question regarding a recent application of your spa and deck products. I live on the gold coast in Queensland and I built a large merbau deck around a new in ground pool and then let the timber sit for 3 months. I then did the 3 step process with the spa and deck products with 3 overall coats and all seemed great. The deck then started to show some black running through some of the boards (we have had a lot of rain here), which has continued to show more and more black, with the deck looking quite weathered in places after only 2 months since I applied the spa and deck. So my question is this. Is this weathering or black on the boards due to the product (spa and deck) not performing as it should, particularly with all the rain and pool use the deck has seen? (Is this not the best product to use around a pool area?) And do you know what I can do now to fix this up? Do I needto prep it again and will this remove the black. Thanks for you help with this. Hi I have a merbau deck that was built around 12 months ago and the builder coated it in Spa n Deck. He told me that he wet the wood (and cleaned it) before applying the Spa n Deck. As the deck is in the direct sun he recommended at the time of installation that we reapply the Spa n Deck finish every 12 months to keep it looking fresh and neat. The wood still looks good but the colour has definately faded. I was going to reapply the Spa n Deck finish and wanted to know if I had to either (1) strip the initial coating off and wet the timber and reapply the Spa n Deck (2) just give it a good sweep, wet the wood and reapply the Spa n Deck or (3) just sweep the deck and reapply the Spa n Deck. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

The deck is 2m x 18m with a spa built into the deck at one end. I am getting lots of staining as water hits the deck, either from the spa or rain. I have a really bad mould problem. We have tried everything and it still comes back. Approx. 18months ago, I did considerable research as to which product to use on my deck and spa. I was told flood was the best and very easy to maintain once the initial preparation was achieved. After cosiderable exspense and sanding back my entire deck and furniture I was excited about using your spa and deck product. However, I am extremely disappointed. I can appreicate this year has been very wet compared to other years, however, my deck looks terrible. The wood hasn't been protected and splitting considerably as with covered in mould. Its a major disppointment let alone a lot more work for me to correct the problem. Hello, I finished using spa n deck on my deck yesterday. Beautiful result, and I love the product. However before begining yesterday I rang to ask if I needed to mask off area and was told that I should wet everything down with water, which I did. The surrounding bricks and tiles have spa n deck on them. Soap and water (as suggested) has not removed it. Nor has turps. Do you have any suggestions, keeping in mind that each end of deck is hard up against a brick wall on one end, and outdoor tiles on other. Thankyou for your time. Regards Annie

My large can on Penetrol has gone like jelly. Is it still okay to use as is or can I thin it with turps? I think the air has got to it as the plastic (useless) lid has torn off so I kept the lid taped down. I have now transferred the remainder to glass jars to keep it airtight otherwise I love your product.

The plaster walls in my 7 year old brick and tile home have a lot of very fine cracks (sometimes refered to as crazing or mappimg. The cement rendering and plastering was not the best and the painting by the contractor left a bit to be desired. I want to repaint the walls. would the use of Penetrol as a sealer prior to repainting help overcome the crazing. Unfortunately PENETROL is not compatible with epoxies but a good quality oil based paint will do for the inside of the gutter. Acrylic is fine over Penetrol on the outside
