Used
for over 55 years throughout the world, Penetrol has played an important
part in maintenance painting for leading industrial and shipping firms.
Now, more than ever, Penetrol provides many new ways to make a wide
variety of tough jobs much easier.
ONE EASY APPLICATION OF PENETROL PRIMES, SEALS,
BONDS
What is it?
Penetrol is a versatile blend of natural oils with a penetration
power 3 times more than water and a powerful bonding ability. High
in solids, non-toxic when dry, colourless and with low odour it is
user friendly.
PENETROL IS RECOMMENDED BY MAJOR PAINT MANUFACTURERS.
What
Does it Do?
Penetrol creeps into the most minute crevices and pinholes of
any surface where ordinary paint cannot enter. There it dries to a
tough yet flexible finish, forming a powerful bonding film for the
next coat of paint. Stable and durable, it compensates for the adverse
effects that weather and surface conditions have on paint. Used alone
as a primer/sealer or added to oil/alkyd based paint, varnishes and
stains or metal and wood primers it enhances their inherent qualities
and makes them stick to almost anything - even glass. Brush and lap
marks are eliminated. Premature peeling, cracking and chalking are
a thing of the past. No more uneven paint film - a major cause of
early breakdown of surface coatings. And unlike thinners, Penetrol
does not evaporate and actually makes more paint. By ensuring greater
coverage from each litre of paint it saves money.
 |
| A
drop of ordinary paint did not spread far. It sits on the surface
and does not penetrate and bond properly. |
The
same paint with 50% Penetrol spread many times further and deeply
penetrated the surface displacing all moisture and air. |
What it Can't
Do?
Penetrol cannot be used in 2-part chemical resistant coatings,
Acrylic or other water based paint, chlorinated rubber or coal tar
coatings. Always mix a small amount first, if not sure, to determine
compatibility.
Penetrol makes it easy to paint
Stir paint thoroughly and apply. When paint "pulls" or "sets"
too fast add Penetrol until the paint spreads smoothly and evenly.
If paint is very thick, or in hot weather, 20% to 30% Penetrol may
be required. If after a while the paint begins to "pull"
add some more Penetrol. Let the brush or roller be the guide. For
spraying 10-20% Penetrol is usually right. THE AMOUNT OF PENETROL
NEEDED FOR EASY APPLICATION WILL NOT CHANGE THE APPEARANCE OF THE
PAINT.

Penetrol makes it easy to get better results with wood primers
Wood surfaces vary in porosity from old and porous to new and tight;
smooth to rough. Wood primers are formulated for the average surface
and cannot be expected to satisfy all degrees of porosity. Penetrol
added to wood primers and oil based stains ensures that the porosity
of the wood is satisfied. Weatherboards, Decks, Trim and Sash: Mix
primer with 30% Penetrol. With severe peeling on window sills etc.
and when wood has become soft, saturate the wood with Penetrol by
applying one coat after the other until the wood cannot absorb any
more. Wipe off excess and let dry before painting. Add Penetrol to
paint for maximum adhesion.
Penetrol
makes it easy to protect and beautify rustic interior wood
Penetrol stops untreated interior beams, panels and furniture from
becoming dried out and dull. It nourishes the wood and highlights
the grain with a rich lustrous finish. Being non-toxic when dry, Penetrol
is ideal for indoor use. Also available as Penetrol Wood Oil when
a handrubbed finish is required.
Penetrol makes it easy to protect wood against moisture attack
and provides a sound base for paint and varnish
Penetrol seals and protects bare wood and makes sure that subsequent
coats of paint will adhere firmly. Penetrol all surfaces and saturate
the endgrain which is most vulnerable to moisture attack. Where mould
and mildew are a problem add VC10 Tropical Mould Killer to the paint
for long term protection. For interior use, a specially scented Penetrol
Wood Oil is available.
Penetrol makes it easy to make your own wood stain
When coloured with universal tinter or mixed with 10-25% oil based
paint or stain, Penetrol can give a wide variety of wood tone effects.
Non-fading oxides or wood tone colours are recommended for exterior
use.
NOTE. To make a tough, durable solid hiding stain for wood decks,
mix 20-30% of good quality oil based enamel with Penetrol.
Penetrol makes it easy to restore faded wood stains
Exterior wood stains that have become dull from weathering can be
made to look like new with 1 or 2 coats of Penetrol. The wood will
also get added protection from the ravages of the weather. |
